Municipality plans R240m project to light up roads.
The Herald, Monday 18 May
Background
After the successful high-mast solar lighting pilot project in Stanford Road, the Nelson Mandela Bya Municipality plans to expand the project to additional roads left in darkness due to vandalism. The masts are planned for the M4 Settlers Freeway, St George Street in Wells Estate, the R75, and the remainder of Stanford Road. This is expected to cost R240m and will be included in a budget facility for infrastructure (BMI) application that the city will submit to the National Treasury. Electricity and Energy acting Executive Director Tholi Biyela presented a report detailing the proposal. The application deadline is July 31. The BFI is a government programme that funds large-scale infrastructure projects requiring R1 bn or more in fiscal support.

Prayer Guidelines:
Seeking God’s Guidance for Planning and Execution
The project involves complex planning, from budgeting (R240m) to submitting the BFI application by July 31. Trusting in God’s wisdom ensures decisions align with His purpose.
Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Prayer Focus: Pray for Tholi Biyela, the municipality team, and all planners to seek divine wisdom. Ask God to guide the BFI application process and project logistics for the M4 Settlers Freeway, St George Street, R75, and Stanford Road.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we trust You to guide the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in this lighting project. Grant wisdom to Tholi Biyela and the team as they plan and submit the BFI application. Make their paths straight and align every decision with Your will. Amen.
Pray for timely completion and a lasting long-term impact
Meeting the July 31 BFI deadline and completing the project on time are critical. God’s timing ensures lasting impact.
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV) – “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
Prayer Focus: Pray for adherence to deadlines and for the project to have a sustainable, transformative effect on the region.
Prayer: Sovereign Lord, You appoint the time for every work. Help the team meet the July 31 deadline and complete this project on schedule. May its impact endure, bringing light and hope for years to come. Amen.
Pray for unity and integrity among stakeholders
The project involves multiple stakeholders, including municipal leaders, contractors, and the National Treasury. Unity and integrity are essential for success.
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:10 (NIV) – “I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
Prayer Focus: Pray for unity, transparency, and ethical conduct among all involved, from planners to contractors.
Prayer: Father, unite the municipality, contractors, and National Treasury in purpose and integrity. Let their collaboration be marked by honesty and a shared commitment to serve the people, for Your glory. Amen.
