Bay clinic patients slam medicine shortages

The Herald 12 January 2026

Thought of the Day
"Chronic medication shortages remind us that earthly systems fail, but Heaven's Provider never does. Today, intercede for the diabetic patients and clinic staff in Nelson Mandela Bay — believing that the Lord turns the hearts of those in authority and opens the windows of heaven."
(Proverbs 21:1 & Philippians 4:19)

Abstract from article:
"A crisis is festering in clinics across Nelson Mandela Bay, with some reportedly experiencing staff challenges and shortages of key medical supplies, including insulin for diabetic patients.
The provincial health department said it was working on rectifying the issue of intermittent supplies.
Spokesperson Siyanda Manana said the primary driver of the situation had been payment challenges, which resulted in some providers temporarily closing department accounts and withholding deliveries.
Additional funds had since been made available to address the issue, he said, adding that when new or emerging challenges were identified, the department would act immediately.
But his assurances did little to appease those who had been directly affected by the situation for weeks.
An official at the Edameni Clinic in KwaNobuhle said staff had to use their own resources last week to fetch chronic medication at a depot."

Prayer Guidelines

The healthcare crisis in Nelson Mandela Bay is marked by shortages of essential medical supplies, particularly insulin for diabetic patients, as well as challenges related to staffing and delays in payments to suppliers. This situation places a heavy burden on vulnerable individuals, clinic workers, and the healthcare system as a whole. As believers, we can bring each of these specific issues before God through focused prayer guided by Scripture. Praying God's Word helps align our hearts with His will, affirms His promises, and invites His intervention.

Here are practical ways to pray, along with relevant Scriptures as a foundation. You can personalize these prayers, speak them aloud, or use them for group intercession. Each section includes a key verse, a brief explanation, and a sample prayer declaration.

1. Shortages of Key Medical Supplies (e.g., Insulin and Chronic Medications)
God is Jehovah Jireh (the Lord Who Provides — Genesis 22:14) and Jehovah Rapha (the Lord Who Heals — Exodus 15:26). Scripture affirms His power to provide for physical needs and bring healing, even when human systems fail.

Key Scriptures:

2. Payment Challenges and Systemic Issues (Leading to Suppliers Withholding Deliveries)
God desires justice, righteousness in authority, and provision for the vulnerable. We are commanded to pray for leaders and those in authority so that peaceful, godly lives may be possible.

Key Scriptures:

These prayers can be prayed daily, perhaps focusing on one area per day or combining them. As you pray, meditate on the Scriptures — let them build your faith. God hears the cries of His people and can bring restoration even in crisis.
