Ford restructuring puts jobs on line at Struandale Plant. - The Herald

Abstract

"More than 70 operator jobs are at risk at Ford Motor Company SA’s Struandale plant as it moves to discontinue its Panther engine units, marking the latest chapter in a sweeping company restructure. The section 189A notice sent to unions on Thursday also revealed that 391 operator positions at the Silverton plant would be cut, alongside about 10 administrative roles across both facilities – underscoring the scale of the workforce reductions. Ford SA communications director Minesh Bhangaloo said the changes were part of ongoing efforts to optimise production and respond to evolving market demands. Ford Motor Company SA is making necessary adjustments to its manufacturing operations at both the Struandale engine plant and the Silverton assembly plant, he said. We regret that these essential plant adjustments will result in a reduction of positions across both facilities. We understand the impact this has on our valued employees, are committed to supporting those affected. As part of this process, we will be offering voluntary separation options. The company employs a total of 4415 workers."

Prayer
Heavenly Father, We come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up the 474 workers at Ford Motor Company SA’s Silverton and Struandale plants facing job losses in this restructuring. We ask for Your peace, as promised in Philippians 4:6-7, to guard their hearts and minds, calming anxieties and granting strength to them and their families during this uncertain time. Lord, we seek Your wisdom, as described in James 1:5, for Ford’s leadership, including Minesh Bhangaloo, and union representatives from Solidarity and others. Guide their decisions and consultations to be fair, compassionate, and transparent, ensuring the best outcomes for all involved. We pray for Your provision, trusting Matthew 6:31-33, that You will meet the needs of the 73 operators at Struandale, 391 at Silverton, and 10 administrative staff. Open doors for new jobs, retraining, or opportunities, and help them seek Your kingdom first, confident in Your care. Father, unite the Ford workforce, their families, and the South African community, as urged in Galatians 6:2, to bear one another’s burdens. Inspire churches, organizations, and neighbors to offer practical and emotional support, fostering a spirit of compassion and solidarity. Finally, we lift up South Africa’s automotive industry and economy, asking for Your blessing, as in Psalm 33:12. Guide policymakers and industry leaders to address import pressures, export challenges, and supply chain issues, preserving jobs and strengthening the nation. Bless Ford’s ongoing investments in Silverton and Struandale, that they may contribute to a stable and prosperous future. We trust in Your love and provision, and we pray all this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
