Pray for Wray, Colorado

1. For church unity despite diversity.

Heavenly Father, we pray for the churches of Wray to walk in genuine unity even amid differences in denomination, worship style, culture, or background. Bind them together by Your Spirit so that division has no place and the world may see the beauty of Your people living as one.

Scripture: John 17:21 – “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

2. The Wray Ministerial Alliance – For the Church leaders serving common interests.

Lord, we lift up the Wray Ministerial Alliance and every pastor and church leader who participates. Give them hearts to serve the common interests of Your Kingdom rather than individual agendas. May their collaboration produce greater fruit for the gospel and the good of this city.

Scripture: Psalm 133:1 – “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”

3. For Churches to welcome visitors and new residents with open arms.

Father, make every church in Wray a place of warm, genuine hospitality. Remove any spirit of cliquishness or indifference, and help them welcome visitors and new residents with open arms, generous love, and a clear message of the gospel, so that newcomers feel truly at home and drawn to Christ.

Scripture: Hebrews 13:2 – “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.”

4. For churches to be a catalyst for community transformation.

Lord Jesus, position the churches of Wray as salt and light that actively transform this community. Ignite them to address spiritual, social, and practical needs so that hope rises, brokenness is healed, and Wray becomes a testimony of Your redeeming power.

Scripture: Matthew 5:14, 16 – “You are the light of the world… Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

5. For farmers and related farming industries – To continue as the breadbasket for the State and the Nation.

Gracious Provider, we thank You for the farmers, ranchers, and agricultural industries that sustain Wray and the surrounding region. Continue to bless the land, the crops, the livestock, and every worker so that they remain a fruitful breadbasket for this state and beyond. Guard them against drought, pests, and economic hardship. Pray for South African workers in the agricultural industry to be good stewards of their work ethic and to be a blessing outside their work environment.

Scripture: Genesis 8:22 – “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

6. For wisdom and vigilance for authorities dealing with severe weather threats.

Father, grant divine wisdom, clear discernment, and constant vigilance to city officials, emergency responders, weather services, and all authorities in Wray as they prepare for and respond to severe weather — tornadoes, hailstorms, blizzards, or drought. Protect lives, property, and livelihoods through their leadership.

Scripture: James 1:5 – “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

7. Pray for the seeds of revival to germinate.

Father, we pray that the deep longing for revival in the hearts of Your servants in Wray will ignite a revival throughout the United States and across the nations of the world. We ask that Wray become a spiritual breadbasket for the nations and that the spiritual wells and aquifers be replenished with Your presence!

Yuma County’s Legacy of Revival

For more than a century, the churches across Yuma County have experienced seasons of spiritual stirring through revival meetings, guest preachers, and united prayer. These efforts, often supported by ministerial alliances, have called families back to Christ amid the rhythms of High Plains farm life.

1917 – The Birth of Yuma First Church of the Nazarene

In 1917, Rev. D.I. Vanderpool held a revival meeting at Bethany Union Church, located six miles south of Yuma. The meetings resulted in the organization of the first Church of the Nazarene in Yuma with nine charter members under District Superintendent R.J. Plumb. This event marked a significant moment of new life and denominational growth in the county.

1911–1912 – Early Revival Gatherings

Newspaper reports from The Wray Gazette as early as 1911 and 1912 mention revival meetings held in local churches, reflecting the steady evangelistic zeal among pioneer farming communities on the eastern plains.

1943 – Revival Services in Wray

Revival meetings were conducted in Wray with Rev. John W. Metsker, continuing the tradition of focused evening services that drew believers together for renewal.

1955 – Nightly Revival Services

In June 1955, The Wray Gazette reported revival services continuing nightly at 7:45 p.m. (except Saturday and Monday), a common expression of spiritual hunger in the county during that era.

Students Conducting Revivals in Churches – 1967

"Two Wayland Baptist College ministerial students are in Wray this week conducting revivals at the First Baptist church. The students are Don Hancock, Afton, Tex., and Gene Jones, Big Springs, Tex., both freshmen. The students are among more than 20 Wayland College ministerial students who will conduct revivals at seven churches in Colorado as members of the Northwest Mission Project. The project is sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance of Wayland Baptist College and is financed by donations from churches in the Wayland College area. The mission with two or more students in each team will conduct revivals in churches at Burlington, Wray, Yuma, Erie, Trinidad, Las Animas and Pueblo." – The Wray Gazette, Volume 64, Number 13, March 30, 1967

These historical glimpses remind us that the soil of Yuma County — and especially Wray — has repeatedly received the seeds of revival. As we pray today for fresh outpouring and unity, we stand on the faithful prayers and labors of those who have gone before us, trusting God to water what has already been sown and bring forth a greater spiritual harvest on the High Plains.

May Your presence be strongly felt in Wray, and may many come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. May visitors want to come to Wray because of Your presence.
