Landmarks in the History of World Evangelization
(From a South African Perspective)
• GCOWE ‘95 Declaration Seoul
The Declaration of the Global Consultation on World Evangelization 1995
The Foundation
We, about 4000 Christians from 186 countries, were graciously hosted by the churches of Korea in Seoul, May 17-25, 1995, for a Global Consultation on World Evangelization. We continue the spirit of earlier consultations committed to the task of global evangelization. Building upon the biblical foundation and call to the mission outlined in the Lausanne Covenant and the Manila Manifesto, as well as the Statement of Faith of the World Evangelical Fellowship, and inspired by the vision articulated at the Singapore 1989 Consultation, we desire to move further toward "a church for every people and the Gospel for every person by AD 2000."
The Vision
We came together around a vision created in us by the command of Christ to "make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19) and to "preach the Gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). Our concern is for the whole church to take the whole Gospel to the whole world. Our primary but not exclusive focus is on the "10/40 Window" (the area of ten to forty degrees North of the equator from West Africa to East Asia) where most of the unreached people groups are located. There also we find the greatest degrees of poverty, illiteracy, disease, and suffering.

• Love Southern Africa June 1993 - 1999
"What Is Love Southern Africa (LSA)? LSA is a seven-year strategy, begun in 1993, to determine who are the unreached or least reached in southern Africa and to allow them to respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ by the year 2000. LSA, which is part of a worldwide movement committed to completing the task of world evangelization by the year 2000, was birthed when God gathered a group of South African mission leaders into the relationship."

• GCOWE '97 South Africa
A singular time... "The timing of GCOWE '97 is crucial in that it is 42 months away from
the end of this millennium. It is also positioned in a singular period in the history of the church when God is divinely superintending a mighty move of His Holy Spirit worldwide, precipitating the greatest revival in the history of the church. For this reason, the "fathers" and key leaders from around the world must meet to set goals for the church according to God's plan, not only to strategize to plant churches among the unreached peoples of the earth but also to responsibly lay "tracks" for the next generation in the 21st century. In so doing, they will increase the momentum in World Evangelization."

"One of the hallmarks of Church Planting Movements around the world is the broad involvement of ordinary people in discipling their friends and family members, often in relatively small groups or home gatherings. The priesthood of all believers is expected and empowered. Like Jesus, leaders give much of their time and attention to empowering their disciples to make more disciples. Top leaders learn to mentor, mature, and manage networks of believers and teams of leaders across a region." -
